The Tourist Police, part of the Federal Police in Argentina have a 24 hour number 0800 999 5000 or 4346 5748 if you are calling from the city of Buenos Aires. There will be someone there who speaks English. Their street address is 346 Corrientes Avenue Capital Federal.
The easiest way to obtain funds from New Zealand is to make a collect call to a friend or member of your family in New Zealand. From Argentina, the freephone number to call is 0800 888 6400.
You will be connected free of charge to a Telecom New Zealand operator who will place your collect call. Your New Zealand contact should call the nearest Western Union office who will advise how to arrange the transfer of money to you.
There are Western Union offices all over Argentina to where funds can be transferred. A Western Union Money transfer can usually be made within 24 hours.
Important! If your passport has been stolen and you do not have an identity document to collect your transferred funds, you should make sure to ask the person who is organising the transfer in New Zealand to provide a code word you have both agreed on.
