New Zealand High Commission Canberra, Australia
The interior
The house, although substantially renovated, retains its original character and is therefore in harmony with the existing early architecture of the Red Hill area.
A relatively modest example of its kind, the Residence marries very effectively the intimacy and comfort of a private home with the requirements of representational functions. Not just the home of the Head of Mission and his/her family, it is also a symbol of New Zealand, where important visitors are entertained. These have included Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 1970, successive Australian Governors-General, Prime Ministers and Cabinet Ministers.
