ANZAC Day 2012 commemoration service

New Zealand and Australian schoolchildren reciting the Ode of Remembrance

On 25 April the New Zealand and Australian embassies hosted an ANZAC Day commemoration service in the nearby Karlskirche (Charles Church) in central Vienna. With its outstanding baroque interior, the Karlskirche made for a fitting backdrop for the occasion.

The service attracted approximately 180 people, the highest number of attendees recorded at an ANZAC Day service in Vienna. Also present were diplomatic and military personnel from the UK, France, Canada, USA, Turkey, Austria, and Pakistan. Moving speeches were delivered by the New Zealand and Turkish ambassadors, the Australian ambassador gave the reading, and the service was completed with an outstanding solo-bugle rendition of the Last Post.
