Working Holiday Scheme

From 12 September 2005 Belgians can apply for their working holiday scheme online.

An online application can be made from anywhere in the world. You will need access to the internet and a credit card (Visa or Mastercard) to pay for the application. The application process and rules for approval are exactly the same as for a manual application to a branch office. If your application is approved, your visa or permit will be issued electronically.

More information on how to apply for your online working holiday visa please visit the Immigration New Zealand website, and information on looking for work in New Zealand.

Applicants are able to lodge a manual application if they prefer.

To be eligible for a work visa under this scheme, you must:

  • be a citizen of Belgium
  • be aged between eighteen (18) and thirty (30) years, both inclusive, at the time of application
  • satisfy the visa officer that your primary intention is to holiday in New Zealand, with employment being an incidental rather than a primary reason for the visit
  • be able produce evidence that you hold a minimum of NZ$4,200 and comprehensive medical insurance on arrival to New Zealand

As a holder of a working holiday visa issued under this scheme:

  • you must not have previously benefited from the scheme
  • you may enrol in one training/study course of up to three months duration
  • you must agree to hold medical and comprehensive hospitalisation insurance to remain in force throughout your stay in New Zealand
  • you must not be accompanied by children
  • you must not undertake permanent or long term employment unless you apply for and obtain a different work permit that enables this first

For more information on the rules and regulations of the working holiday scheme please see the Immigration New Zealand website.
