Ambassador Mark Trainor delivered a speech on New Zealand's Trade Policy at FAAP - Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado, on 04 October.

The speech traces the development of New Zealand's policy, including its ground-breaking FTA with China and the current Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations that bridge countries on both sides of the Pacific.

New Zealanders are deeply grateful for the generosity, sympathy and support they have received from all around the globe since the Christchurch earthquake of 22 February 2011 (see preceding item). We are working together to rebuild Christchurch.

The earthquake was confined to Christchurch and the adjacent Port of Lyttelton. Many businesses there are already back up and running.

On the occasion of the MERCOSUR Summit in Foz do Iguaçu, the Foreign Minister of Australia, Kevin Rudd, and the Ambassador of New Zealand to Brazil, participated as Special Guests in the XL Meeting of MERCOSUR's Common Market Council (CMC), on 16 December, 2010. The Foreign Ministers of MERCOSUR expressed their deep satisfaction at the presence of Minister Rudd and the representative from New Zealand.

Changes to current fees

The changes to fees are the result of a review of immigration fees and levies. The review was required to ensure that the fees and levies aligned with changes made by the Immigration Act 2009. Immigration fees and levies are also reviewed regularly to ensure they cover the cost of delivering immigration services. 

The Embassy of New Zealand wishes to advise that from 29 November 2010, there will be an increase in Immigration fees.  Please pay attention of the new fees to avoid any problems

Young New Zealanders will be able to spend a year working, studying and holidaying in Brazil from September 1, Foreign Minister Murray McCully announced today.

The New Zealand-Brazil Working Holiday Scheme allows 300 young New Zealanders to travel to Brazil each year, and offers reciprocal rights to the same number of young Brazilians.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for young Kiwis aged between 18 and 30 to spend a year sampling the life and culture in Brazil," Mr McCully said.

Energy and Resources Minister Gerry Brownlee awarded, on 1 June 2010, New Zealand's first petroleum exploration permit over the Raukumara Basin off the North Island's East Coast to Petrobras International Braspetro B.V.

"It is with great pleasure that I welcome, for the first time to our region, one of the biggest global players in the petroleum industry," Mr Brownlee said.
