Brazil: Protests

There have been protests in a number of cities across Brazil in the past week, including in Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Brasilia.

Protest activity continues to be planned. The demonstrations, which have coincided with Brazil's hosting of the FIFA Confederations Cup, can turn violent with little or no warning.   We recommend New Zealanders  in Brazil  avoid all demonstrations, protests and rallies.  If you are in an area affected by demonstrations or violence, you should leave the immediate vicinity and follow any instructions issues by the local authorities.

New Zealanders requiring consular assistance should contact the New Zealand Consulate in Sao Paulo on Tel: +55 11 3253 6296 or the New Zealand Embassy in Brasilia on Tel: +55 61 3248 9900.
