Upcoming Kea Events

Christchurch Earthquake Relief Benefit
Kea Toronto invites all Kiwis and friends of New Zealand to come together at Hemingways on Wednesday, March 23rd for a special fundraiser.

This event will run all day from 11am to close at 2am, with special food and entertainment and proceeds will go directly towards the New Zealand Red Cross Earthquake Appeal.

We’ve already received pledges of significant donations from the business community, and with contributions on the night and a special raffle, we expect to raise a substantial amount to help our people back home – some of whom have been left with nothing. The High Commissioner, Andrew Needs, has indicated he’ll be travelling from Ottawa to attend. Our thanks to Martin and the staff at Hemingways for their generosity and flexibility in making this benefit happen.

If you’re unable to attend, but wish to make a financial contribution to support those who have been badly affected by the earthquake, we suggest you donate online at or

If you prefer to receive a receipt for tax purposes in Canada, but still want to make sure your donation is targeted to the earthquake relief effort, you can donate to the Salvation Army here, and make sure you designate your gift to the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal.

When: Wednesday, 23 March, 11am onward.
Where: Hemingways Restaurant & Patio Bar, 142 Cumberland Street, Yorkville, Toronto.

Pub Night – Wednesday, April 13
Our next regular pub night will be in April. Come meet fellow Kiwis and like-minded friends at Hemingways for a catch up, a yarn and a pint. We meet in 'Kiwi Corner' to the left of the bar on the third level, just under the big Australia and New Zealand mural.

Date: Wednesday, April 13
Time: 6pm onwards
Venue: Hemingways, 142 Cumberland Street, Toronto.

ANZAC Day – Saturday, April 30
Kea Toronto will mark ANZAC Day with a formal dinner at the Officers’ Mess of the Canadian Forces College. We aim to build on last year’s event with improved food, drinks and entertainment.

Please note that as this year's ANZAC Day coincides with Easter Monday, this event falls on the following Saturday. New for this year will be the opportunity to purchase tables for groups. Tickets for this commemorative event will be available on the Kea Toronto website from March 18.

When: Saturday, April 30
Where: Officers’ Mess, Canadian Forces College.

Other NZ Events

New Zealand Actor Performing Off-Broadway Bollywood Style Comedy
D’Arranged Marriage is the story of Sanjay Gupta, the New Zealand-born son of Indian immigrants Manhur and Pushpa. 29-year-old Sanjay lives at home, works in his father’s corner shop, dreams of a career in stand-up comedy, and strenuously avoids the issue of an arranged marriage.

His nagging parents finally get the better of him, but to his surprise, he discovers that Neenu, the prospective bride, is the one! Unfortunately, complications (and hilarity) ensue…

With all 8 characters performed by one versatile actor, this is billed as “the funniest parody of Indian family life” since Bend it Like Beckham, and what critics have dubbed a “roller coaster ride to laughsville.”

When: Thursday March 10th at 8pm
Where: Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts, 10268 Yonge Street, Richmond Hill, ON.
Price: $38 Adults, $34 Student / Senior
Bookings: Call 905.787.8811

Waitangi Day Report
A sometimes boisterous crowd assembled once again at Hemingways to celebrate New Zealand’s national day. The whole patio joined our Maori performing group in some of the songs, and definitely in the haka! Another great night that seems to get busier every year.
