"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" Special screenings in Ottawa and Toronto

The New Zealand High Commission in Ottawa and Honorary Consul in Toronto hosted special 3D screenings of the “The Hobbit:  An Unexpected Journey” for audiences in Ottawa and Toronto.

The first screening hosted by Winton Holmes, Acting New Zealand High Commissioner to Canada took place on Saturday 15th December at the Empire Theatre at the Rideau Centre in Ottawa.  Around 200 people attended the late morning screening, which included a New Zealand inspired brunch.  The brunch attended by a largely Canadian audience allowed guests the opportunity to sample some kiwi cuisine that included bacon and egg pies, sausage rolls, ANZAC biscuits and lamingtons.

New Zealand Honorary Consul in Toronto, Phillip Crawley hosted a second screening of the film in Toronto on the evening of Monday 17th December, with Sarah Ireland attending from the High Commission in Ottawa.   Around 250 people were present for the screening at the Scotiabank Theatre located in the Entertainment District of Toronto.  The screening was preceded by a reception targeting a range of key stakeholders including politicians, business contacts, media, academics, policy think tanks and representatives from KEA Toronto http://www.keanewzealand.com/north-america/chapters/kea-toronto

Air New Zealand and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) also co-hosted a similar event in Vancouver.
