NZ to support Canadian-led non-proliferation efforts

New Zealand is to contribute $685,000 to a Canadian-led project under the G8 Global Partnership Against the Spread of Weapons of Mass Destruction.

The announcement was made in a joint press conference with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper during Prime Minister John Key’s visit to Canada – the first visit by a New Zealand Prime Minister in 11 years.


Volcanic ash clouds from an eruption in Iceland have disrupted flights throughout much of Europe.  It is not known when airspace restrictions will be lifted allowing flights to resume.  Check the Safetravel site for more information.

Kea Toronto ANZAC Dinner and Celebration - Saturday April 24
This is the social event of the year for ex-pat Kiwis and Aussies. Cost is $75 per person and includes an evening of socialising, entertainment and a three course dinner with complimentary New Zealand and Australian wines. This event will be held at the Canadian Forces College, 215 Yonge Blvd, Toronto.


Prime Minister John Key leaves for the US next week for the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington (12/13 April).

One objective of this Summit is to focus attention at the highest levels of government on the threat of nuclear terrorism.

"The Nuclear Security Summit is part of the vision laid out by President Obama in Prague to work towards a world free of nuclear weapons.


Over the period 19 - 25 April 2010 a selection of New Zealand wines will be showcased at the Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival.  These wines, coupled with a taste of New Zealand Culture through performances by a Kapa Haka group, will ensure a memorable experience of New Zealand.
