Two damaging aftershocks hit Christchurch on June 13th. There have been no reported fatalities, but there is significant damage to infrastructure and buildings.

The first aftershock was a magnitude 5.5 and struck at 1300, 10 km east of Christchurch at Taylor's Mistake beach, at a depth of 11 km. It was followed at 1420 by a magnitude 6 quake, centred 10 km southeast of the city at a depth of 9 km.

There is no indication at this point that any foreign nationals have been affected in this event.

Environment Canada's Canadian Hurricane Centre is encouraging people to prepare for what is expected to be another active hurricane season.

The United States' National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicts that the level of hurricane activity in the North Atlantic Ocean will again be above normal. U.S. info can be found at: www.nhc.noaa.gov

We also ask that you include a pre paid return courier envelope or waybill so we can return your passport by the same courier service.

The New Zealand High Commission and Australian High Commission, in partnership with the Canadian War Museum, are hosting a memorial ceremony to mark the 96th anniversary of ANZAC Day.

The ceremony follows the lines of a traditional remembrance service in the presence of senior Government of Canada officials and representatives, the Ottawa diplomatic and military community and members of the public. The service will be followed by a gunfire breakfast in the Museum's cafeteria.

HANDS UP 4 NZ! - a fundraiser event in support of the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal 2011.

On February 22, 2011, at 12:51 pm, the city of Christchurch, New Zealand, and surrounding areas struck by a major earthquake that claimed at least 165 lives, injured hundreds of people, and caused billions of dollars in damage.
