Safe Travel - Landslides and flooding in Peru and Bolivia
In late January 2010 over 3000 tourists, including 21 New Zealanders were evacuated from the village of Aguas Calientes, Peru following landslides and flooding in the tourist areas around Machu Picchu. Heavy rains, landslides and flooding in Bolivia have now caused a state of emergency to be declared in a number of areas including La Paz, the Bellavista district to the south of La Paz, Santa Cruz, Cochabamba, Chuquisaca and Beni. New Zealanders who intend to travel between Peru and Bolivia overland, should be aware that landslides have blocked routes in and out of Cusco, Peru.

NZ congratulates Chile on being invited to join the OECD
On 15 December 2009, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development issued an invitation to Chile to become a member. An Accession Agreement was signed in Santiago on 11 January 2010. Chile will become a member once it formally accedes to the OECD Convention.
