Cooperation on Greenhouse Gas Inventories

The New Zealand Government under the Environmental Cooperation Agreement as part of the Transpacific Strategic Economic Partnership was pleased to support the visit to Chile by Cherie Sweeney, National Inventories Coordinator in the Ministry for the Environment, to share experiences in the preparation of national inventories of greenhouse gas emissions required under international obligations. Sweeney’s visit included technical workshops with officials from agencies such as the Climate Change Office in the Ministry of Environment, a public seminar, visits to INIA Remehue and to a CONAF research centre in Pirque.

This visit followed on from a visit to New Zealand by officials from Chile’s Ministry of Environment, that coincided with the visit by Chile’s Minister for the Environment in September. Climate change is a key area of cooperation between New Zealand and Chile. Another recent event in this area was a seminar in May on the role of forestry in carbón capture and how to incentivise this.
