New Zealanders in Chile: Travel Advice for the XI Region

New Zealand citizens traveling or residing in Chile are advised of ongoing protests in the XI Region – Región Aysén del General Carlos Ibañez del Campo. Large-scale protests are taking place in and around the cities of Aysén and Coyhaique. Several main roads in the area are closed by protest action. Fuel and food supplies are reported to be running low and travelers already in the area may experience inconvenience and delays.

There are no indications that foreigners are being threatened or targeted. Nonetheless, New Zealand citizens are advised to remain alert to local security developments and to be vigilant regarding their personal security by monitoring media, knowing the locations of police stations, hospitals and other secure locations.

New Zealand citizens are advised to avoid all demonstrations, as bystanders can quickly be caught up in unforeseen violence.
