New Zealand High Commission Rarotonga, Cook Islands

Interested in a career with the New Zealand Defence Force?

Members of the New Zealand Defence Force

A New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) Recruiting Team will be visiting Rarotonga over the period 11 – 15 Aug to meet with officials and conduct a series of briefings aimed at recruiting young Cook Islanders into a career within the New Zealand Air Force, Navy or Army.

The recruiting process has been streamlined to minimise the barriers previously faced by Cook Islands applicants. The changes mean that Cook Islanders who meet the NZDF entry standards (education, fitness, medical etc) are provided opportunities for a military career alongside counterparts from New Zealand. Final selection remains competitive so applicants must be at their best in order to experience the world of opportunities offered by a career in the NZ military.

This visit is the result of cooperation between the NZDF, the New Zealand High Commission, Cook Islands Police Service, Ministry of Education, and the private sector.  The NZDF and New Zealand High Commission extend their thanks to those who helped make this possible.

Police Commissioner Maara Tetava has strongly supported efforts to enable NZDF recruitment in the Cook Islands.  “I am very pleased with this development.  The NZDF has and continues to provide outstanding career opportunities for our people. I encourage those who are keen to have a go to make every effort to talk to the team.”

New Zealand High Commissioner Joanna Kempkers also welcomed news of the visit.  “Cook Islanders in the NZDF have made an important contribution, both historically and in today’s joint forces.  This visit will help to ensure that involvement continues, for the shared benefit of both young Cook Islanders and the NZDF”.

The NZDF team will be visiting local schools throughout the week to provide information direct to students, and there will be an evening session held by the team for interested members of the public.  Details of the recruitment briefing times and venues are provided in the programme below.
