New Zealand Embassy Cairo, Egypt

Getting married in Egypt

New Zealand citizens wanting to get married in Egypt will need to go in person to the Ministry of Justice in Cairo to complete the required documentation.

The Ministry of Justice requires a declaration signed by you and witnessed by the Embassy in respect of your civil status. The declaration can be drawn up by the Embassy and is based on the New Zealand Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage. Those who have been married may be required by the Egyptian Ministry of Justice to produce verified legal documents confirming the dissolution of the previous marriages.

The Department of Internal Affairs, New Zealand issues the Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage. The Department of Internal Affairs website provides comprehensive information about how to apply for the Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage, the applicable fees and how long it will take. You are also able to download the Certificate of No Impediment application form from this website.

All these documents should be provided to the Ministry of Justice in Cairo along with your passport.
