New Zealand Embassy Cairo, Egypt

Egypt: Mass Demonstrations

Mass demonstrations are expected on Sunday 30 June 2013, in towns and cities across Egypt. It is likely there will be disruption to normal life on and around this day and possibly continuing for some time after that.

We recommend New Zealanders in Egypt monitor events through the media and maintain a high level of security awareness in public areas. You are strongly advised to avoid any protests, demonstrations, rallies or large public gatherings. If you are in an area affected by demonstrations or violence, you should find a safe location, remain indoors and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities. In addition, we recommend that you ensure you have sufficient supplies of food, water, essential medicines, petrol and cash on hand to see you through this period. It's also desirable to have all your important documents (including passports) together in one place for easy retrieval. You should also keep friends and family in New Zealand apprised of your safety and well-being. New Zealanders in Egypt requiring consular assistance should contact the New Zealand Embassy in Cairo on +202 2461 6000 or +201 00 106 1163 after hours or email enquiries@nzembassy.org.eg.
