Essay Competition 2012

The Secondary Schools Essay Competition has become a popular and well established event in Fiji’s education calendar, allowing senior students to illustrate their writing skills.

For the past three consecutive years, students from schools all over Fiji have entered the competition and produced many impressive and well researched essays.

Given the success of this competition, the New Zealand High Commission and the Fiji Association in Auckland (Inc) are once again pleased to announce the 2012 National Essay Competition.

This year’s competition has a cultural theme and students are invited to write on either “What My School Culture Can Offer Fiji” or “Cultural Links between Fiji and New Zealand”.

The judges are Dr Satendra Singh, ONZM, QSM, JP and Lady Hillary, QSM (wife of the late Sir Edmund Hillary).

15 winners will receive cash prizes from a total pool of $6000 along with certificates, while the two overall winners will receive cash prizes of F$1000 each, trophies and certificates of distinction. Their schools will also receive a commemorative plaque while other schools will receive a certificate of appreciation.

Essays must be submitted through the school that the competition entrant attends.

The deadline for entries is Friday 20th April 2012. Entries should be sent to the New Zealand High Commission, PO Box 1378, Suva.

Information packs on the essay competition have already been distributed to secondary schools.

If any school has not received the information pack or would like further information on the competition they should contact the New Zealand High Commission by email or Ph: 3311422.
