NZ PM launches earthquake appeal

The NZ Prime Minister has announced the launch of the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal.

The Appeal is an official global fundraiser for the recovery effort in Christchurch and the Canterbury region.
It has been launched by the Government to reach as many people as possible globally who wish to help and support Christchurch.

The February 22 earthquake affected countless people internationally.
The Appeal is designed to complement appeals already established, such as the funds organised by the Red Cross and the Salvation Army.

Offers of help and assistance are pouring in from individuals, organisations and governments around the world. This new Appeal gives people another means of donating to the people of Christchurch and the recovery effort.

New Zealand Government will work alongside these organisations to make sure the funds are used in the best possible way. This Appeal will have global reach, with the network of diplomatic posts able to reach millions of people world-wide.

The Prime Minister also praised several organisations which had donated their time and expertise in order to get the Appeal up and running.

The condolence book will close on 11 March at 10am.
