Qerelevu School thankful of assistance
A school in the remote district of Ba is in high spirits after the New Zealand High Commission (NZHC) stepped in to help upgrade the school’s furniture.
The school, with a roll of 47 students, received a delivery of 42 single desks and chairs recently.
The Head teacher of Qerelevu Hindu School, Navinesh Kumar, expressed his sincere thanks for the funding assistance of $2730 under the Head of Mission Fund (HOMF) scheme.
“This is the first assistance of its type provided to the school and we consider this will help drive better academic performance,” said Mr Kumar.
He said the assistance would help provide a safe and conducive learning environment for the students.
The NZHC’s HOMF scheme supports a wide range of projects, including those that help to improve access to education services.
According to Mr Kumar, the primary school students were using desks and benches which were very old and in a dilapidated state.
The local community comprises mostly small scale farmers.
Mr Kumar said the new set of furniture was OHS compliance and would contribute towards providing better learning facilities at the school.
