The New Zealand High Commission and the Fiji Association in Auckland (Inc) are once again pleased to announce a Secondary Schools Essay Competition for 2013.

This is the fifth consecutive year that the competition has been held, allowing secondary school students across Fiji to illustrate their writing skills.  Last year’s competition attracted 328 entries from 72 schools.

In a bid to provide safe drinking water to a community in the interior of Viti Levu, New Zealand Government financial assistance of $14,600 was given towards a water project in Navosa Province.

Working in partnership with Habitat for Humanity Fiji (HFHF) and the villagers, the New Zealand High Commission (NZHC) funded construction of a completely new and safe water system for the Namacawa community.

The New Zealand High Commission (NZHC) recently assisted Nabukulevuira Primary School with over $6600 worth of library resources and water tanks.

Nabukulevuira Primary is an isolated boarding school with a roll of 92, situated in the province of Kadavu.
Acting Head Teacher, Sereima Tuitubou was overwhelmed with the assistance and acknowledged NZHC for the substantial support provided.

“We are very thankful to the NZHC for addressing the needs of our school,” said Ms Tuitubou.

The Secondary Schools Essay Competition has become a popular and well established event in Fiji’s education calendar, allowing senior students to illustrate their writing skills.

For the past three consecutive years, students from schools all over Fiji have entered the competition and produced many impressive and well researched essays.

Given the success of this competition, the New Zealand High Commission and the Fiji Association in Auckland (Inc) are once again pleased to announce the 2012 National Essay Competition.

With the beginning of the new school term, three schools on the outskirts of Savusavu, Nausori and Suva have benefited from the New Zealand High Commission’s (NZHC) small grants scheme.

Under the Head of Mission Fund, FJ$7000 worth of library books was donated to the schools.

In order to improve literacy, encourage students to read and research, especially students in disadvantaged areas, NZHC was pleased to provide educational support in the form of library books.
