New Zealand Embassy Berlin, Germany

Canterbury DHB Chief Medical Officer Dr Nigel Millar to visit Germany.

Dr Nigel Millar, Chief Medical Officer at Canterbury District Health Board in New Zealand, visits Germany this month.

After giving presentations at two international healthcare events in London, Dr Millar will travel to Berlin for talks with the Federal Ministry of Health on 18 March.  Dr Millar, a physician with 30 years’ experience in health IT, has been at the forefront of a movement in New Zealand to transform the Canterbury region into what is believed to be one of the most integrated healthcare systems in the world.  As a member of the National Health IT Board he has been involved in the implementation of a number of significant New Zealand-wide IT projects in the health sector. Interoperability in healthcare, telemedicine and integrating healthcare are high on the agenda in both New Zealand and Germany and this visit provides a good opportunity to exchange experiences and best practices.  Canterbury is the second largest healthcare region in New Zealand; the Christchurch earthquake in 2011 was a catalyst for change and drove forward a regional electronic patient record system.
