NZSO wows audiences on European Tour

The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra played a sold-out concert at the renowned Musikverein in Vienna on Saturday

The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra is on tour in Europe, playing at concert halls in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Slovenia.

The NZSO is playing to full houses and receiving very favourable reviews. The German newspaper Badische Zeitung reported that the orchestra had "demonstrated that they can, without fear, allow themselves to be compared with leading European ensembles".

Following a sold-out concert at the renowned Musikverein in Vienna on Saturday 6 November, a reviewer from the New Zealand Herald wrote: "The orchestra played the best I've heard them play, and the audience was so rapturous – even more than I would ever have imagined."

New Zealand Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage Hon Christopher Finlayson attended the Vienna concert, and speaking afterwards said: "We all know the NZSO is a world-class orchestra and we've now shown that to the Viennese, who are well-known for being among the most critical audiences in the world."
