The Chief of New Zealand's Defence Force, Lieutenant General Rhys Jones, made a bilateral visit to Berlin from 7-8 February 2012. The visit helped to cement New Zealand's cooperation with Germany on defence matters, which includes a common contribution to the International Security and Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan and a helicopter pilot exchange to assist the training of New Zealand pilots to fly NH90 helicopters. Lieutenant General Jones met with the German Defence Force Chief of Staff, General Volker Wieker, for bilateral talks and visited the German Bundeswehr Joint Operation Forces Command in Potsdam.
