The 42nd WorldSkills Competition took place between the 2nd and the 7th of July in Leipzig.

WorldSkills is a youth competition celebrating vocational qualifications. Participants ranging from 17 to 22 years of age, come together to demonstrate excellence in their professions and to promote the exchange of skills between young professionals from around the world.

New Zealand was represented by a team made up of 13 competitors in various trades ranging from aircraft maintenance to floristry. One silver medal and four Medallions of Excellence were achieved.

Supported by an enthusiastic international crowd, the Opening Ceremony included the team's performance of the haka, perceived to be one of the highlights of the ceremony and a real crowd-pleaser.

The next WorldSkills competition will take place in São Paulo in 2015.

The Embassy team congratulates the New Zealand team on their success and wishes them all the best for the future.
