Victoria University of Wellington's Vice-Chancellor Professor Pat Walsh and NZ Embassy Chargé d'Affaires Lisa Futschek hosted a function for German-based VUW Alumni at the New Zealand Ambassador’s residence in Berlin on Friday 30 March. 

Two New Zealand feature films made their world premieres at this year’s Berlin International Film Festival, the Berlinale: Maori Boy Genius, a documentary by Pietra Brettkelly about the childhood of Ngaa Rauuira Pumanawawhiti, a young Maori boy, screened on Monday 13th February; and Two Little Boys, a new film by brothers Robert and Duncan Sarkies staring Bret McKenzie and Hamish Blake screened on Tuesday 14th February at the House of World Cultures in Berlin.

A delegation of the Bundestag's  (German lower house of Parliament) Germany-Australia-New Zealand friendship group visited New Zealand from 20th to 23rd February 2012. The purpose of the visit was to deepen the parliamentary contacts between both countries and the friendship group's understanding of New Zealand's politics and policies.

The Chief of New Zealand's Defence Force, Lieutenant General Rhys Jones, made a bilateral visit to Berlin from 7-8 February 2012. The visit helped to cement New Zealand's cooperation with Germany on defence matters, which includes a common contribution to the International Security and Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan and a helicopter pilot exchange to assist the training of New Zealand pilots to fly NH90 helicopters.
