New Zealand will be the Guest of Honour at the prestigious 2012 Frankfurt Book Fair, Arts Minister Christopher Finlayson announced today.

“The Frankfurt Book Fair is the world’s most prestigious and well attended international publishing event,” Mr Finlayson said. “As the Guest of Honour, New Zealand will significantly raise its profile not only in Germany, but also with over 110 exhibiting countries and the hundreds of thousands of visitors attending the fair.”

Alicia Frankovich is a recipient of the Creative New Zealand Scholarship at the International Atelier Programme of the Künstlerhaus Bethanien, which is currently presenting her solo exhibition “Gestures, Splits and Annulations” with videos, films and kinetic sculptures.

On the 3rd of April Kiwi chick Manu saw the light of day at Frankfurt Zoo. Now, a few weeks later, the lively brown bird is exploring its enclosure in the breeding house. Manu is a North Island Brown Kiwi, an endangered species listed on the IUCN Red List.

When presenting the new chick, Professor Manfred Niekisch, Director of Frankfurt Zoo, commented that they are particularly proud of the fact that with the hatch of the 31st Frankfurt-born Kiwi they have again contributed to the preservation of this extraordinary species.
