Influenza A H1N1 Outbreak

Fri 12.06.09 The Ministry of Public health has confirmed that the number of cases of A(H5N1) influenza in Thailand has increased by 30 overnight, and now stands at 46. Of these, 17 are staff at a disco in Pattaya, and a further 4 cases are residents of Chonburi Province (which includes Pattaya). More information here...

Bangkok Security Situation

Mon 27.04.09 New Zealand's travel advice for Bangkok has returned to the previous "Some Risk" level and no longer recommends the deferral of travel to Bangkok. The State of Emergency in Bangkok has now been lifted but further protest action and demonstrations cannot be ruled out. Foreign nationals have not been the target of any action in the course of these demonstrations but New Zealanders should continue to remain alert to the situation and comply with any instructions issued by the local authorities.

Accidents Involving Rented Motorbikes, Vehicles and Jetskis

Mon 26.01.09 New Zealanders visiting Thailand who are involved in motor accidents or who accidentally damage rented motorbikes or other vehicles will have to pay for damages before they can leave the country.

Thailand reduces validity period for visitor visas obtained at Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia and Myanmar land borders

Mon 05.01.09 The visa validity period for overseas visitors - including New Zealanders - who enter Thailand across a land border from Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia and Myanmar has been reduced to 15 days (from 30 days).

Travel to the United States: New Requirements

Wed 24.12.08 The United States has introduced a new electronic visa waiver system that will come into force on 12 January 2009. From this date, all New Zealanders planning to travel to the United States for less than 90 days for business or tourism without a visa will be required to obtain an on-line travel authorisation before they go.
