About the High Commissioner

Grahame Morton is the High Commissioner at the New Zealand High Commission in New Delhi, India – which is also cross-accredited to Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

A career diplomat, Grahame was until March 2014 the Divisional Manager of North Asia Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) in Wellington. In this role, he managed New Zealand’s growing engagement with China, Japan, South Korea, Mongolia and Taiwan. He has had earlier professional stints as a senior policy officer in the Australia Division of MFAT (2007-09), as First Secretary at the New Zealand Embassy in Beijing (2004-07) and as the diplomatic officer in charge of New Zealand’s Antarctic maritime policy (2002-04). He has also served as New Zealand's Deputy High Commissioner to the Cook Islands (1999-2002).

The High Commissioner is a graduate of the Otago University. He enjoys cricket, golf, cycling, and gardening and is an enthusiast of Asian and American history.
