New Zealand Emergency Travel Document (ETD)
What is an ETD
An ETD, which stands for Emergency Travel Document, is a high integrity, machine-readable travel document with world-class and unique security features similar to the standard machine-readable passport.
An ETD can be issued to a New Zealand citizen whose previous New Zealand passport has been lost or stolen, has expired, where the local situation prevents them from accessing their New Zealand passport, or they are unable to obtain a new passport due to urgency of travel, time constraints or system unavailability. It is the discretion of the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) as to whether they authorise the issuance of an ETD.
The usual validity period of an ETD is one month.
a) Once the ETD is issued, the lost or stolen passport will be permanently invalidated and can not be used for any travel. If the lost/stolen passport is recovered, please return it to the nearest embassy or DIA office for cancellation.
b)Multiple entry visas, residence permits and other long-fife endorsements should not be entered into an ETD as they will be destroyed along with the ETD when a replacement passport is issued.
Rp.2.170.000 (equivalent NZ$350) for adult or child. This fee includes the cost of a new full replacement passport upon application to Identity Services offices in New Zealand, Sydney or London before the expiry date of the ETD. An additional fee of Rp.40.000 should be included if the ETD is to be sent by courier outside of Jakarta.
ETD Applicaton Form
Available from the Embassy, the Australian Consulate General in Bali, or may be downloaded from www.passports.govt.nz. The applicant has to complete in his/her own handwriting. A parent may complete an application if their child is aged under 16 years.
Two Identical Photographs Required
3.5 x 4.5 cm. One photo must be certified on the back by the identifier (if there is an identifier). Please ensure photos meet the criteria for facial recognition (see website).
Preferably two different forms of identification, and one must include a photo, such as a driving licence.
Necessary if passport was lost or stolen.
Maximum time is 3 working days from receiving a complete and correct application form.
Indonesian Rupiah in cash if paid over the counter.
