New photo requirements

It is important you pay particular attention to the information regarding the new requirements for passport photos. A summary of the requirements can be found on page three of the passport application form.

Photos must NOT be on a white or dark background and applicants must have a neutral expression.

You can view the new passport photo requirements by downloading the PDF file from the Department of Internal Affairs website.

Please note the applicant should NOT write on the back of the photos or on the Proof of Identity page. This is to be completed by the Witness in their own handwriting. The identifier must be contactable during normal office hours.

Please be aware that your application may be rejected if the photo is not suitable or the application form is incorrectly filled out.
