New Zealand Embassy Jakarta, Indonesia

From the Ambassador's blog: Boxing Day Tsunami: Eight Years On

As a close friend and partner with deep expertise in disaster management, New Zealand has sought to strengthen cooperation in this field with Indonesia since 2004. Our contribution to the Multi Donor Fund was the largest we ever made for a single disaster. We’re working with Indonesia’s national disaster preparedness agency to strengthen their planning and the capability of their staff; crown-research institute GNS has been working to help develop plans and capacity at the provincial level; New Zealand has helped develop plans for the ASEAN Humanitarian Assistance Centre in Jakarta; and, as well as being the first donor to contribute to Indonesia’s two new funds, we are encouraging other donors to join us.

The Boxing Day tsunami was truly an horrific event, but it was the catalyst for change in Indonesia and Aceh that is on-going. Current and future generations will benefit.
