Media Release, New Zeland Embassy Jakarta, 17 July 2014
New Zealand’s Ambassador to Indonesia, David Taylor, today announced the appointment of a New Zealand Honorary Consul for East Java, Indonesia.
Mr Harry Sunogo, a prominent East Java businessman with long-time connections to New Zealand, was today appointed Honorary Consul in a ceremony at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Mr Harry will be resident in Surabaya, and have jurisdiction throughout East Java. Mr Harry has been involved in the agriculture business since 1975 through the Sekar Group, one of the largest business groups in East Java province, which produces frozen and dry processed food products under the umbrella brand Finna.
“East Java is a national leader in the fields of energy, agri-business, education and transport. The main city in the province, Surabaya, is Indonesia’s second largest and a significant hub for trade in goods and services. As such, the province represents a key focus for New Zealand’s relationship with Indonesia” Ambassador Taylor says.
“The appointment of Mr Harry Sunogo will provide New Zealand with the opportunity to solidify and strengthen collaboration with this important province. As Honorary Consul, Mr Harry Sunogo will help to reinforce official ties and enhance business connections between New Zealand and East Java. I’m delighted he is taking on this important role”.
Harry Sunogo’s appointment is the first Honorary Consul appointment for New Zealand in Indonesia; a further step forward in what is an increasingly significant bilateral relationship.
