New Zealand writer translated into Indonesian language – a first

New Zealand Samoan writer Albert Wendt has been translated into Indonesian language by publishers from Yayasan Obor Indonesia - reportedly the first time that a New Zealand work of fiction has been published in Bahasa Indonesia. The title of the novella is Flying Fox in the Freedom Tree.  First published in 1974, Wendt's classic work explores themes in Samoan history.

Yayasan Obor Indonesia is a non-profit organization that publishes selected titles into Indonesian language. The organisation is hoping to publish other New Zealand writers in the Indonesian language in the future.  Journalist Mochtar Lubis was one of the founders of Yayasan Obor Indonesia.
