Potential for anti-Western protests and violence

The publication of a caricature of the Prophet Mohammed and a film depicting the Prophet found offensive by Muslim people increase the chance of protest action directed at United States and French interests in particular.  Violence associated with protest activity cannot be ruled out and could extend to other Western interests in Indonesia.

We encourage New Zealand citizens in Indonesia to keep a low profile and avoid large public gatherings and any protests and demonstrations.  We suggest you monitor the local media closely to stay informed of any developments.
