Six New Zealand Defence Force personnel recently spent time in Indonesia, providing medical and health assistance as part of a five day mission with the United States Naval Hospital (USNS) MERCY for Pacific Partnership 2010.
The annual exercise travels the Pacific nations with more than a thousand military and civilian personnel from around the world, whose roles include equipment repairs, engineering, veterinary support and medical, dental and surgical support.

New Zealand’s Ambassador to Indonesia, David Taylor, has officially handed over a cheque for $NZ25, 000 to help in the rebuilding of an earthquake-damaged school in West Java.
A charity golf tournament held in honour of New Zealander Tim Mackay, former president director of Holcim Cement Indonesia, has raised nearly US$100,000 to help reconstruct the school which has approximately 300 students. The charity golf tournament, which will become an annual event, was organised by the Property and Construction Golf Club.  Mackay co-founded the club.

New Zealander Alun Evans is helping Indonesian coffee growers put their coffee on the world map - a coffee that he believes is the best in the world, and has the potential to be a huge earner for the country.
An expat Kiwi originally from Wellington, Evans has a passion for coffee and Indonesia, arriving in the country twelve years ago to learn the Indonesian language so he could find out more about the coffee industry. He fell in love with the place and stayed.

New Zealand Samoan writer Albert Wendt has been translated into Indonesian language by publishers from Yayasan Obor Indonesia - reportedly the first time that a New Zealand work of fiction has been published in Bahasa Indonesia. The title of the novella is Flying Fox in the Freedom Tree.  First published in 1974, Wendt's classic work explores themes in Samoan history.
