We have stepped up our engagement with Indonesia around education links. Why? We want to support Indonesia and we want to share our world class capabilities with our friends in Indonesia.

The New Zealand story

New Zealand has long been recognised for providing world class education. International education really kicked off with the Colombo Plan scholarships, awarded to students from developing nations like Indonesia since the 1950s.


Discussions with New Zealand companies in recent weeks has highlighted the value in breaking down how the New Zealand Embassy can support business. This blog is an attempt to set out simply and clearly what the team here can do to help.

The key agencies so far as New Zealand companies are concerned are the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFAT) and Trade and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE). We work closely together and are co-located in the New Zealand Embassy in Jakarta.


The New Zealand Inc Strategy for the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) was launched by Prime Minister John Key this morning in Auckland.


Smoke haze from fires in Sumatra (Indonesia) is currently causing very high pollution readings in Singapore, parts of Malaysia, and Sumatra itself. The haze is generally worse between June and October depending on the number of fires lit, wind direction and climatic conditions.


Led by New Zealand Government Minister Hon. Maurice Williamson, a delegation of 52 New Zealand business people are visiting Indonesia this week, to strengthen the trade relationship between the two countries.

From 18 March 2013, the office which receives applications for visas for travel to New Zealand has changed.


New Zealand Embassy media release ahead of New Zealand Education Fairs in Medan, Jakarta and Surabaya

Jakarta, INDONESIA - March 7th 2013: Ahead of a major series of New Zealand education fairs in Jakarta on Sunday 17 March, Medan on 16 March and Surabaya on 20 March, H.E. David Taylor, Ambassador of New Zealand to Indonesia, said: “Our message is simple: New Zealand offers world class educational facilities at reasonable cost, high-quality qualifications that are recognised and transferable, and in an environment that is safe, fun and friendly”.


Applications are currently open for the New Zealand ASEAN Scholars Awards (NZAS) for the 2014 study intake for postgraduate study in New Zealand.  The closing date for applications is 22 April 2013.

Up to 50 scholarships are available per year for Indonesians to pursue postgraduate studies – including Postgraduate Diploma, Master’s degree and doctorate/PhD – at New Zealand’s eight world-class universities.  There is also a special allocation of two scholarships available per year for people working at the ASEAN Secretariat.
