New Zealand and Afghanistan

New Zealand has since 2002 made a major contribution to Afghanistan, centred on the Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) in Bamyan Province and the deployment of SAS forces. The PRT commitment currently extends to September 2007. Despite progress in many areas, Afghanistan remains heavily dependent on outside support. The New Zealand Aid Programme targets priority areas like governance reform, human rights and agricultural development.

For more information, please see the Afghanistan information paper on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade's website.
