New Zealand Embassy Rome, Italy

New Zealand 70th Anniversary Commemoration of the battles of Monte Cassino

Balcony of Heaven - Monte Cassino

In May this year the New Zealand Embassy will  be commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the battles of Monte Cassino, and more generally, New Zealand's involvement in the Italian Campaign of the Second World War.

The Embassy is organising two Services of Remembrance to which all New Zealand citizens are invited.

The first service will be held at the Cassino Railway Station on Saturday, 17 May 2014, at 2.45 pm. This service will include a tribute to the men of the 28th Maori Battalion.

The second service is a New Zealand National Service of Remembrance to be held at the Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery in Cassino on Sunday, 18 May 2014. Guests will be required to be at the Cemetery by 2.30 pm for security purposes.

Both services have been organised in conjunction with the New Zealand Defence Force and New Zealand Ministry of Defence. There will be a significant presence of New Zealand veterans and veterans' associations, and their descendants.

The media accreditation process for both ceremonies will be advised seperately.
