PUBLIC AFFAIRS ADVISER – LES, open tenure

The New Zealand Embassy in Tokyo is seeking a Public Affairs Adviser to support and enhance New Zealand’s interests in Japan.

As part of the Embassy’s public affairs team you will be responsible for helping to coordinate the Embassy’s public diplomacy activities including organising and managing events; identifying and developing strategies for public and profile-raising events that lift New Zealand’s profile and strengthen its constituencies in Japan; being a key point of contact for the media and the public, and managing updates for the Embassy’s website and Facebook presence.

In addition you will be responsible for conducting research and analysis, and providing information and advice in support of the Embassy’s objectives.

Your background in public relations, social media or journalism along with excellent networking, research and analysis skills, coupled with strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, will be key to your success.

You will need to possess a relevant tertiary qualification and at least 3 years’ relevant work experience, as well as strong IT skills, sound judgement, flexibility, initiative, and an ability to set priorities and work as part of a team.  The working language is English but the successful candidate will need to be fluent in both spoken and written Japanese.

The starting salary range is JPY5,590,000 – JPY6,700,000 gross per annum.  The successful applicant will be employed on local terms and conditions and must have the right to live and work in Japan.  Obtaining and maintaining the appropriate working visa, if necessary, is the responsibility of the applicant and any offer of employment is subject to this.  In addition, relocation to Tokyo where required is to be undertaken at the expense of the applicant.  We are looking for the successful candidate to be available to commence duties in July 2013.

POLICY ADVISER (BUSINESS) – LES, 6-months fixed term

Are you an experienced Policy Adviser looking for a new challenge?

Would you like to help enhance New Zealand’s profile in Japan?

The New Zealand Embassy in Tokyo is seeking a Policy Adviser for a six-month fixed term to support and enhance New Zealand’s business and economic interests in Japan.

In this position, you will be responsible for helping to organise and coordinate a major business/economic event in September; identifying and developing business relationships with New Zealand and Japanese companies that strengthen New Zealand’s position in the Japanese market; and researching and providing information and advice on economic, business, science and education sectors in Japan in support of the Embassy’s business and economic objectives.

Your background in event management, along with excellent networking skills, research and analysis skills, coupled with strong written and oral communication skills, and the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of business and other stakeholders, will be key to your success.

You will need to possess a relevant tertiary qualification and 3-4 years relevant work experience as well as strong IT skills, sound judgement, flexibility, initiative, and an ability to set priorities. The working language is English but the successful candidate will need to have a high level of fluency in both spoken and written Japanese.
