Notarial Services

At the Embassy or by an Honorary Consul

Consular Officers at the Embassy in Tokyo, and Honorary Consuls in some regional centres, are able to carry out notarial services. The type of services available and fees charged are listed below.

• Certifying documents as true copies of the original (eg birth or marriage certificates) ¥3,700
• Preparing consular letters as required by Japanese authorities (eg certificate of signature) ¥7,500
• Witnessing the signing of official documents for use under New Zealand law (eg wills, land transfer deeds, powers of attorney)* ¥7,500
• Taking affidavits, affirmations, and statutory declarations* ¥7,500
•  Preparing translation of documents as required by Japanese authorities (eg translation of Certificate of No Impediment issued by the New Zealand Department of Internal Affairs) ¥11,200

* Must take place in person at the Embassy or a Consulate
