2013 Citizens initiated referendum
A Citizens Initiated Referendum on the question “Do you support the Government selling up to 49% of Meridian Energy, Mighty River Power, Genesis Power, Solid Energy and Air New Zealand?" will run from Friday 22 November until Friday 13 December 2013.
To vote in the referendum voters must be enrolled with their correct address by 21 November. Voting papers will be sent to voters from 22 November.
As enrolment forms need to be signed, people are advised that once they have entered their details to download the form, they are to print, sign and date it. Details of where to send the completed enrolment form are provided as part of the online completion instructions.
Voters can check and update their enrolment details or enrol at www.elections.org.nz
The referendum is being conducted as a postal vote; this means voting papers will be sent out and are to be returned in the mail.
Unlike a general election or by-election, people overseas will not be able to vote in person at an overseas post, or download voting papers from the elections website. Only people enrolled will be sent their voting papers.
Overseas voters are to return their completed voting papers to the Returning Officer in New Zealand by post using envelopes enclose to the following address:

Voters who do not receive voting papers are to contact the Electoral Commission and apply for a replacement voting paper to be posted to an overseas address. To apply for a replacement voting paper the voter is to visit www.elections.org.nz or call the Electoral Commission on +64 9 909 4182.
