Ambassador attends the launch of the “Hokkaido Association of New Zealand Friendship Societies and Sister Cities”

On Friday 19 April, like-minded representatives from friendship societies and sister cities in Hokkaido met at a hotel in Sapporo and agreed to establish the “Hokkaido Association of New Zealand Friendship Societies and Sister Cities”.

Mr Fumiyuki Saijo, Chair of the Otaru New Zealand Friendship Society, was elected to the position of Association Chair.  Speaking to the participants, newly elected Chair Saijo said that he is keen to hold a general assembly annually to exchange ideas and thoughts among members and encourage more people in Hokkaido to visit New Zealand.

One exciting opportunity to bolster his initiative will be a one-off chartered flight to take off  in the autumn of 2014 between Chitose Airport and New Zealand.  Following the meeting, a welcome reception was held for Ambassador Mark Sinclair and his executive officer Tomo Miyazaki who were on their working trip to Hokkaido.
