Christchurch Symphony Orchestra to visit Japan

The Christchurch Symphony Orchestra has been invited by the Association of Japanese Symphony Orchestras to perform in Tokyo and Sendai for Asia Orchestra Week 2011 (AOW) in early October.

The Christchurch Symphony Orchestra performs a full season of symphonic work and supports other performances including the Royal New Zealand Ballet, Southern Opera, Choral, National and International Music competitions. The orchestra has also performed and been the orchestra of choice for international artists such as Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Diana Krall, Andrea Bocelli, Julian Lloyd Webber and Nigel Kennedy.
AOW have in the past invited orchestras from Asia and Australasia to represent their musical heritage. There will also be performances by Daegu Symphony Orchestra from Korea and Sendai Symphony Orchestra. This year, collaboration between New Zealand and Japan highlights ongoing recovery efforts in both countries that suffered struck earthquakes in 2011.
