Message from New Zealand Ambassador Ian Kennedy

On behalf of the government and people of New Zealand may I express our sincere and deep thanks to the government and people of Japan for their speedy and generous support of the search and rescue effort for people affected by the Christchurch earthquake.  Prime Minister Key has spoken directly with Prime Minister Kan, Foreign Minister Murray McCully has expressed his deep gratitude also to Foreign Minister Maehara for the generosity of spirit shown by Japan. We are humbled and truly grateful for the outpouring of donations and other assistance which is of tremendous help and moral encouragement in dealing with this grave tragedy.
