New Zealand-Japan joint assistance in drought-stricken Tuvalu

New Zealand is looking to transport via a military aircraft desalination machinery and parts supplied by the Japanese Government to the drought-stricken Pacific island of Tuvalu on 5 November.

New Zealand’s Ambassador to Japan Ian Kennedy welcomed joint cooperation between New Zealand and Japan to relieve the effects of the drought in Tuvalu.

“I am delighted that Japan and New Zealand as longstanding and likeminded ODA partners in the Pacific are looking to jointly assist the people of Tuvalu,” said the Ambassador. “This joint commitment reflects the long-term commitment of both countries to assisting Pacific countries overcome environmental issues and challenges.”
