Rwanda: 20th commemoration of the Genocide

Special Envoy of the Prime Minister Colin Keating and High Commissioner to Rwanda James Kember represented New Zealand at the 20th commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi in Kigali on 7 April.

New Zealand was given a place of high honour in the official seating and New Zealand’s role on the UNSC in 1994 was publically acknowledged before the about 25,000 attendees from Rwanda and around the globe. 
 
Keating and Kember were able to call on Foreign Minister Mushikiwabo on 9 April and hand over a set of the documents from 1994 covering New Zealand’s positions on the Rwanda tragedy.

Ambassador to Japan Mark Sinclair also attended a commemoration event in Tokyo  on 7 April hosted by Ambassador Charles Murigande (who is accredited to New Zealand through the Embassy in Tokyo)
