TPP talked about in NZ
Round 15 of the Trans-Pacific Partnership FTA negotiations began today in Auckland, New Zealand, between the 11 participating countries (including new entrants, Mexico and Canada) represented by over 500 negotiators.
The TPP has attracted much interest and debate among the New Zealand public and various stakeholders. Among TPP associated issues that have generated debate are the Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) provisions that allow an investor to bring an international arbitration claim against a government that breaches agreed investment rules, and transparency around the negotiations themselves. The New Zealand negotiating team has just posted some useful background items on ISDS here and transparency here on their TPP Talk website. The latest group to join the debate in New Zealand is an industry group whose website can be viewed here.
