End of Year Visa Application Deadlines

The Embassy closes for the year on Friday 24 December and re-opens on Tuesday 4 January.

Student visa applications (Japanese citizens)

Japanese student visa applicants wishing to receive visas within the 2010 calendar year are advised of the following application receipt deadlines:

Applications submitted by post: Tuesday 30 November
Applications submitted at the counter: Friday 3 December

Applications received after these dates may not be processed until the New Year.

Christchurch earthquake

Christchurch is recovering well from the major earthquake on 4 September. New Zealand’s high levels of earthquake preparedness and strong infrastructure have seen essential services quickly restored to most of the affected area.

An area in central Christchurch is cordoned off and this cordon is reviewed daily. The remainder of Christchurch is accessible.

No other areas of New Zealand are affected by the earthquake.

Opportunity to try New Zealand wines in September

New Zealand wine events that are scheduled for September 2010.

Currently underway is "NZ wine a glass", where particpating restaurants throughout Japan will have New Zealand wine available for the whole month of September and the New Zealand Wine Club are holding a New Zealand wine tasting with over 100 superb New Zealand wines.

Visa applications may be submitted at the counter, however as with applications received by post, they may be returned by post if later found to be incomplete. Regular Visa Section services will resume from Friday 6 August.
