The New Zealand Ambassador Ian Kennedy would like to invite New Zealanders in Japan, including their partners and families, to attend an informal lunch marking Waitangi Day at the New Zealand Embassy in Tokyo from 11am to 2pm Sunday 5 February 2012.

New Zealand is looking to transport via a military aircraft desalination machinery and parts supplied by the Japanese Government to the drought-stricken Pacific island of Tuvalu on 5 November.

New Zealand’s Ambassador to Japan Ian Kennedy welcomed joint cooperation between New Zealand and Japan to relieve the effects of the drought in Tuvalu.

There is no end-of-year deadline for receipt of student visa applications. The processing of student visas over the period December - March may take up to 4 weeks excluding Embassy holidays.

The processing of visitor and work visa applications may also take longer than usual during the December - March period due to a large number of applications received at this time.

The British Embassy Tokyo will host the Commonwealth Remembrance Day on Sunday, November 13, 2011, at the Commonwealth War Cementery in Hodogaya to honour the memory of Commonwealth servicemen and servicewomen who fell during the two World Wars and other conflicts.

An invitation of attendance has also been extended to the New Zealand community in Japan. The ceremony will begin at 10:30am, and is scheduled to conclude at 11:20 am.

The 2011 General Election and Referendum on the Voting System in New Zealand will be held on Saturday 26 November 2011. Eligible New Zealanders overseas can vote in the lead up to Election Day. To vote you must be enrolled.

The New Zealand Embassy is supportive of the Government of Japan’s announcement last May of its intention to join the Hague Convention on International Parental Child Abduction. We encourage Japan to advance its Hague Convention ratification process and implementing legislation as close as possible to the widely accepted world standards.
