Foreign Minister Murray McCully has announced the appointment of Hon Shane Jones as New Zealand’s new Ambassador for Pacific Economic Development.


Goods exports rose to $4.5 billion in April 2014, Statistics New Zealand said today. This is an increase of $553 million since April 2013.

The Government of New Zealand has a strong interest in deepening agricultural cooperation between New Zealand and Japan, particularly in the dairy sector in Hokkaido.

As part of an agricultural diplomacy initiative, the Government of New Zealand earlier this year has established the Dr Kawase Scholarship to send a few selected young dairy farmers from Hokkaido to undertake an intensive two-month dairy technician course at the Taratahi Agricultural Training Centre in Masterton.


The Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN), hosted a multinational mine countermeasures exercise from 17 February to 7 March in the Hauraki Gulf near Auckland with the participation of more than 600 personnel from 14 nations including Japan, Australia, the United States, South Korea and China. The RNZN co-hosted this event with the United States Navy as part of the Western Pacific Navies Symposium series of exercises.


Anzac Day 99th commemoration was greeted with a warm and beautiful morning in Yokohama last Friday.  New Zealand hosted a large gathering of diplomats, military representatives, friends and families to this annual service held at the Hodogaya Commonwealth lawn cemetery. 


The Food, Agriculture and Hospitality Committee in co-operation with the non-profit organization ‘OGA for Aid’ are working to organize their fourth volunteer trip to Minamisanriku to assist the local community in recovering from the 2011 Earthquake and Tsunami.


The New Zealand and Australian Ambassadors wish to announce that an ANZAC Day Memorial Service will be held at the Commonwealth War Cemetery, Hodogaya, Yokohama on Friday 25 April 2014 commencing at 9:00am. 


Special Envoy of the Prime Minister Colin Keating and High Commissioner to Rwanda James Kember represented New Zealand at the 20th commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi in Kigali on 7 April.
